Synchronized Squares Quilt

If you happen to be my sister, and happen to be older than me, and your name happens to start with an ‘S’, don’t read any further. You’ll see this in person soon enough.

The sun was peeking out just enough for photos this morning, so I finally shot the Synchronized Squares quilt! Above-mentioned sister is perhaps a little obsessed with frogs, so Prince Charming by Tula Pink and a selection of green prints from various lines—as well as a few solids in green and complimentary colors (including a corduroy!)—made a great choice for this.

A Terrible Photo Post

This update is brought to you by random photos of projects that I have on my cell phone. At first, I wasn’t planning on quilting the Synchronized Squares quilt or the Strip-pieced Lone Star/Star of Bethlehem quilt until later in the year, because they are both Christmas presents.

But then I got my hands on a spool of white Aurifil and decided to do the Synchronized Squares quilt last week. I basted it and quilted it Friday evening. It went pretty quickly. I even washed and dried it, then couldn’t resist snuggling under it a bit. But it’s been pouring rain and generally overcast ever since, so I haven’t been able to photograph it yet.

Hopefully the weather will improve later this week, as I’d like to photograph it and send it off. I decided not to wait for Christmas, as I don’t generally give this family member Christmas presents anyway.

Here’s a sneak peek:

Busy & Nothing To Show For It

I was actually quite productive over the weekend. I pieced most of the back for the Strip-pieced Lone Star/Star of Bethlehem quilt, although I had to stop before I finished, because it was just all going wrong on Friday night and I needed to step away. It happens.

Then, I managed to finish the top and back of the Synchronized Squares quilt, but don’t have photos of either, thanks to the torrential rain we received Sunday courtesy Irene.

As of last night, it’s all sitting on the back of the couch ready for me to baste it. I just couldn’t bring myself to crawl around on the floor, not to mention my painter’s tape seems to have disappeared.

I’m a Guest Poster on Craizee Corners!

Sharon over at Craizee Corners is hosting a series of posts about Tula Pink including a giveaway that closes Aug. 30 as part of her Designer of the Month series.

At this point, you may have forgotten from my lack of updates that I am using Tula Pink’s Prince Charming in the Synchronized Squares quilt. But I am!

I really haven’t made much progress, because I haven’t touched the quilt for a month. I dug it out and started piecing again, before realizing that I hadn’t even cut the whole thing out! So, I finished cutting and now need to sew a few more blocks together to finish the top. In the mean time, I used some leftovers for a special addition to the back.

Head over to see my post and learn more about my progress on the quilt, including my pocket on the back into which you can fold the quilt so that it becomes a pillow!

I’m working on a bucket list for quilting, more for my sanity to get it down on paper and out of my brain than for public consumption. The #1 item is to finish the myriad projects I’m already working on. Some are whiling away in boxes, some I am actively working on. It’s gotten a little out of control; I have eight!

The Greens, They Are Taking Over…

I’ve been assured, based on my quilty-blog browsing, that many quilters tend to gravitate toward filling their stash with a specific color (or a couple of them). Mine has been inundated with blues and greens from the start, but after my latest shopping spree, the greens have pulled ahead in the race (and other colors have gained no ground at all, it seems).

All of these…

I present (in no particular order) some prints from Prince Charming, Aviary 2, Delovely, Alhambra, Dolly Dresses 2, and Silent Cinema; Kona Solids; Moda Bella Solids; a bit of butter-colored linen and some green corduroy for good measure.

…will be going into one particular quilt, though (well, that’s the current plan, at least. Maybe not all will make it in). I have a feeling there will be lots of scraps leftover, due to the project calling for two layer cakes and the fact that I’m not using precuts.
